single vision...

The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan (Miramax Books, 2006)

series: Percy Jackson and the Olympians (#2)

genre: Adventure, fantasy

ages: 10-14years

honors: none

review: Percy has made it through his first year of junior high with his new friend Tyson. However, a game of dodgeball with giants throws Percy and Tyson, and Annabeth into a quest to save Grover from an evil Cyclops, in addition to solving the mystery of who poisoned Camp Half-Blood.

opinion: This is a great follow-up The Lightning Thief, bringing back all of the familiar characters, and an equally exciting story. I like how Percy is a kind person, who befriends the kids who are ridiculed by others—i.e., Grover and Tyson

ideas: With the vastness of the myths from Greece, this could be offered to a reader who’s read D’Aulaires Book of Greek Mythology to expand and stretch his knowledge of the myths.
