genre: Documentary
rating: TVPG
honors: Young Artists Awards Social Relations of Knowledge Institute Award (2006)
review: In one hour, two special effects experts (Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage) take on urban myths and try to prove do-able or not. The show constantly is blowing things up, playing with ballistic jelly or dead pigs. The fun comes when they begin reworking the myths to figure out how the myth could work outside of the realm of realistic conditions.
opinion: This is another favorite show of my kids, and one that I’ve never sat down to watch. It’s engrossing to watch them take some legend (like could a see-saw be a catapult for a small child or James Bond’s gadgets) and break it down to see how it works, and then expand on it to the extreme to make it work.
ideas: It’s the perfect combination of science and explosive {literally} investigation that would appeal to boys of all ages.
