Ruby Holler by Sharon Creech (Harper Trophy, 2002)
genre: Realistic, Mystery
ages: 10-14 years
honors: Children’s Choice Awards from 7 states (2004-2005)
review: Florida and Dallas are the Terrible Twins who live in the Boxter Home for Children . They have also lived with several horrible sets of foster parents, each one worse than the one before, and each of the experiences have shaped the twins into being wary and hardened. Then they are taken in by Sairy and Tiller Morey and moved up to Ruby Holler. The twins and the Moreys learn that families come in all shapes and sizes and ages.
opinion: This book intermixes the right amount of humor, adventure and intrigue to make this book a page turner with heart.
ideas: I’d recommend this book to anyone who is a fan for Sharon Creech—this is a great book. I also think this book does a good job in showing how a family can be made by blood or simply with a group of people who need each other.
