bottom of the sea...

Modern Love by Matt Nathanson (Vanguard Records, 2011)

genre: Pop

age: 9 years +

honors: none

review: Singer-songwriter, Matt Nathanson’s new follow-up album is all about desire, love and relationships. The singer-songwriter gives listeners a collection of tales about people in all stages of relationships with his comfortable vocals and signature passion.

opinion: I enjoyed Matt Nathanson’s previous album, Some Mad Hope, and wasn’t disappointed with this new effort—even with a four year wait. He writes songs that speak to the heart about the passion of being in love. Which would explain why I like it, but my sons don’t.

favorite: Bottom of the Sea… but Come On, Get Higher (from Some Mad Hope) is one of my all-time favorite songs

ideas: While there is no literary value here, this is a CD I’d suggest to tween/teen girls more often than I would boys of the same age because it’s lofty tribute to love in all forms.
