floating girls...

Treasures of Weatherby by Zilpha Keatley Snyder (Antheneum Books for Young Readers, 2007)

genre: Mystery

ages: 9-12 years

honors: none

review: Twelve-year old Harleigh the Fourth is small, and is the smallest member of the sprawling Weatherby family, many of which living in the Weatherby mansion… a place he rarely leaves because of the teasing about his diminutive size. But one day, while he’s outside the house a strange girl literally floats into his world and the house to help Harleigh save the Weatherby family fortune.

opinion: When reading about Harleigh’s self-imprisonment within the house, you feel sad for him. But as the story progresses, you champion for him and his new-found freedoms and almost can see him grow physically as he grows mentally. As for the floating girl…

ideas: This a great book to get tweens interested in reading mysteries because there is just a little bit of suspense and unknown to pique any reader’s interest.
