for girls growing up... just not too fast...

Girls’ Life Magazine Monarch Services (1994-present)

genre: Realistic

ages: 10-15 years

honors: multiple Parent’s Choice Gold Awards

multiple Parent’s Guide to Children’s Media Awards

official magazine for the Girl Scouts of the USA

review: Girls’ Life is a magazine that offers advice to young girls on topics ranging from guys, their bodies and health, entertainment and fashion. The magazine prides itself on giving real answers to real girls, as well as profiling real life problems and challenges. The magazine’s range is safe to all girls from 10 to teens.

opinion: This magazine covers the major topics that effect tween girls in a way that promotes self-esteem and confidence. Girls’ Life often features interviews with famous girls from the Disney stable, as well as other stars. I appreciated the fashion for its classic styles, the make-up advice is for a less is more look, and the advice for questions for their bodies is told honestly and in a way all readers can understand.

ideas: This is a magazine I’d keep in the library for tweens to read for fun, for information and for school research as it does touch on current interest topics beyond clothes and boys.
