True (…sort of) by Katherine Hannigan (Greenwillow Books, 2011)
genre: Realistic
age: 8-14 years
honors: none
review: Delaware, or Delly, is always in trouble. And as more people call her trouble and bad, the more she believes it… and she starts acting on her bad impulses and hurting people she loves. Then the new girl in school comes to be unlikely friends with Delly and the stuttering Brud. All three of them find solace in the fact that none of them hurt each other with words, because they all know how badly words can sting.
opinion: Kartherine Hannigan writes a book rich with emotion from three little people who are in pain emotionally, mentally and physically. The friendships are silent, as Ferris, refuses to speak to either Delly or Brud, but none the less healing.
ideas: This book is touching and would be a good one for readers looking for a book about friendships. Or could be used in a classroom or in a psychological a way to show healing from abuse.
